How to Enable Live Activities

Enable Live Activities

Enabling Live Activities

Enabling Live Activities will allow you to monitor when automations have run so you don’t have to open the app to see check sync status information, and they provide a shortcut to syncing without having to search for the app on your Home Screen.

If you combine Live Activities with the Automation Widget, you should see better syncing performance according to your configured Sync Interval, as widgets can perform network requests, whereas Live Activities can’t.

Live Activities and widgets both have the constraint that they are limited in the number of times they are allowed to refresh by the system, so it will help with sync reliability but doesn’t completely get around iOS limitations.

Troubleshooting

Live Activities can only be started when Health Auto Export is in the foreground. Here are some important points to keep in mind when using Live Activities.

  • Live Activities can only run for up to 8 hours. Open Health Auto Export to reset the system timer current activities.

  • iOS limits the frequency of updates for Live Activities. This means data displayed may not be precisely up-to-date with the current sync status of the automation.

  • Only up to four automations will displayed in the Live Activity tray at any given time.

  • Live Activities or only available in iOS 16.1 and later.
